Your Personality May Make You Fat – According to a new Swiss study, what you eat is determined by your personality type. The study provides an interesting insight into eating behaviors.

For the study, researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology gathered data on personality, eating, and food choice data from over a thousand people in the German-speaking parts of Switzerland. They used the five stable personality traits to find out what and why people with theses traits ate.

The traits were: extroversion, openness to experience, conscientiousness or the need to follow rules, agreeableness, and neuroticism or how your emotions affect your eating behaviors.

According to the lead researcher, Carmen Keller, neurotic people tend toward emotional eating, while extroverts and agreeable people tend to eat larger portions of unhealthy food because they like to eat out with friends. The conscientious people are very disciplined in everything they do, including eating, and they’re more likely to eat healthy, and restrict their intake of sweet and savory foods and drinks that are unhealthy.

Being an extrovert doesn’t seem to help when it comes to healthy eating.
