Apple Watch app will track glucose levels for diabetics – Already approved by the FDA, a new Apple Watch app is slated to debut in April to help diabetics make sure their blood sugar levels don’t go too high or too low.

The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that the app, designed by medical products maker DexCom, will track and display the wearer’s glucose levels on the watch in the form of a graph.

The goal is to help diabetics easily and quickly read their blood sugar levels by simply glancing at the app. DexCom’s glucose monitor uses a tiny sensor placed under the skin around the abdomen to measure glucose levels every five minutes. The sensor sends the data to a remote handheld device within 20 feet. That device then communicates with the iPhone, which then sends the data to be displayed on the Apple Watch.

The app itself is expected to be available in April–the same time the Apple Watch itself will reach consumers.
