Starbucks Baristas Will Stop Writing ‘Race Together’ on Coffee Cups

| March 23, 2015 Comment

Starbucks baristas will stop writing ‘Race Together’ on coffee cups – Starbucks baristas will no longer write “Race Together” on customers’ cups.

Initially, this was part of the coffee company’s push to get people to discuss diversity frankly. Now the cups are no longer part of the conversation. According to CEO Howard Schultz, they were always “just the catalyst” for the Race Together initiative.

Starbucks announced the Race Together initiative last week but it got a mixed response from consumers. Some saw it as a way to exploit the current racial tensions in the country for marketing purposes.

According to Schulz, Starbucks will continue to hold forums and open more stores in minority communities. The company also teamed up with USA Today to create inserts exploring race in America, which are currently available for free in the newspaper’s print editions at Starbuck’s US stores.
