5 Risk Factors for Alzheimer’s

Researchers are discovering new risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease, which affects over a million people in the US.

Studies found that high levels of blood sugar for over 5 years can increase the risk of developing dementia. High systolic blood pressure (which is the top number), may increase the risk of Alzheimer’s. Other indicators to look for are a slow walking pace and a shortened stride, associated with a decline in memory and cognitive skills, and depression, which can double the risk of such diseases. Heart disease is another major risk factor.

Researchers suggest that the best defense against Alzheimer’s and dementia is to stay active and healthy. More….
