Angelina Jolie Speaks Out for an Important Cause – Angelina Jolie made a special trip to NYC to attend a United Nations Security Council meeting on the Middle East and Syria on Friday.
As the Special Envoy of the High Commissioner For Refugees, Angelina highlighted the refugee crisis in Syria, explaining that “we are failing to save lives in Syria.” According to UN estimates, 3.8 million Syrians have fled the country, and 7.4 million others have been displaced in the last four years.
She got back to her UN duties after addressing another serious issue in late March, when she revealed she had surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes and will not be able to have any more children. Jolie urged the UN Council to impose sanctions and an arms embargo on Syria and end the conflict.
She later addressed the abuses of women in the conflict at a Women of the World Summit event at the UN.
