Bill Gates Drinks Water Made from Poop; Looks to Bring Technology to Developing World – A Seattle-based firm has developed new technology that takes human waste and distills the vapor into drinkable water.
The firm separates water from waste sludge by evaporating it. The remaining waste is heated in a steam engine which powers a generator to produce electricity. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is backing a pilot program that is planned in Senegal, Africa, later this year.
Gates pointed out the many sanitation problems that plague the developing world, saying “If we can develop safe, affordable ways to get rid of human waste, we can prevent many … deaths and help more children grow up healthy.”
We’ll certainly drink to that!
