Birth Control Options You Should Know About – For many women, taking an oral contraceptive is as integral to their daily routine as charging their phone. But does the pill deserve to be our go-to?

Not according to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gyne­cologists or the American Academy of Pediatrics, whose experts now recommend IUDs and implants for sexually active young women, citing reliability and convenience.

These guidelines coincide with the introduction of two non-pill options. The IUD Skyla, launched in 2013, is wearable for three years, releases a lower dose of hormones than its big sister, Mirena, and has been found to be safe for women who haven’t had children as well as those who have.
