E-Cigarette Vapor Contains Cancer-Causing Chemicals
E-Cigarette Vapor Contains Cancer-Causing Chemicals – A new study found that e-cigarette vapor could contain 15 times more formaldehyde than regular cigarettes.
Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen – a cancer-causing chemical, which is colorless with a strong smell , and is commonly used in glues and as an embalming fluid in mortuaries.
Researchers at Portand University say that newer version of e-cigarettes can be operated at high temperatures, which increases creation of formaldehyde compounds. At high temperatures, e-cigarettes released enough formaldehyde compounds to increase cancer risk by as much as 15 times.
A spokesman for the American Cancer Society points out the need to regulate e-cigarettes because of the dangers they pose to smokers’ health. Until recently, e-cigarettes were seen as a safe option for cigarette smokers trying to quit smoking.
The US Food and Drug Administration proposed federal restrictions for e-cigarettes in April 2014; the proposal is under review.
