Fruit and Vegetable Consumption Higher in Young Children

Fruit and vegetable consumption is higher in young children than in teens, a new survey shows.

The survey was conducted by CDC”s National Health and Nutrition Examination during 2009-2010. Dietary guidelines recommend consumption of at least one cup each of fruits ad veggies a day and according to the study, 90% of kids aged 2 to 5 ate fruits in a 24-hour period. Ninety-three percent of kids aged 2 to 11 reported consuming vegetables every day.

The survey found that as the kids grow older, the fruit and vegetable consumption goes down, when it needs to go up. Overall, the report is encouraging, and experts say that parents can encourage a greater intake of fruits and vegetables by including a variety of them in every meal. More….
