Researchers Study Gene Activity During Musical Performance – A new study has identified specific genes which activate during musical performance. Their findings have been published in the journal, Nature Scientific Reports.

After studying blood samples from ten professional musicians obtained before and after a performance of classical pieces, the researchers synthesized the genes which activated during the performance. They witnessed a boost in the activity of genes involved in neural growth and flexibility. Genes which dictate motor skills also increased in activity. They also noticed areas light up where pleasure is observed in the brain.
