If you like it HOT, you may be a candidate for Bikram yoga, also called HOT YOGA. It’s a series of Hatha Yoga poses done in what the founder Bikram Choudhury calls his TORTURE CHAMBERS. They are workout rooms heated to–105 degrees with 40 percent humidity.

During a hot yoga session, you’ll spend 90 minutes in extreme heat doing 26 yoga postures along with two breathing exercises. They require absolute focus and strength. Most poses are done twice–the first warms you up and the second works your muscles.

The goal is to raise your heart rate and fatigue your muscles in order to expel toxins from your body.

Aside from muscle toning and cardiovascular health, hot yoga can increase blood flow and help your skin rid itself of dry or dead cells through increased sweat.

Like some other intense workouts, this program also strengthens the mind by relieving stress and pushing your body beyond its normal tolerance for heat and strenuous activity.

BUT hot yoga ISN’T for everyone. Because of the intense conditions, people with a history of heat stroke or heart disease are better off sticking with regular hatha yoga routines. It’s also a good idea to duck out of hot yoga if you’re pregnant or have persistent trouble with dehydration.
