Spinach Pakoda

Spinach Pakoda makes a healthy snack and appetizer. These crunchy bites are a great way to make kids and adults get their greens vitamins.

Despite being fried, these pakodas are healthy not only because of the spinach but also because of the besan or chickpea flour which is rich in protein and fiber.

Servings: 4
Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups besan (split bengal gram dal flour/chickpea flour)
  • 3 cups spinach, washed and chopped
  • 5-6 green chillies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying

Preparation

  1. Heat the oil in a frying pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix the besan flour, chopped spinach, turmeric, chilli powder and chillies with salt and 4 to 5 teaspoons of hot oil. Mix all the ingredients with a little bit of water, just enough to bind the ingredients.
  3. Take spoonsful of this mixture and drop into the oil. Repeat until you have enough fritters for the oil.
  4. Reduce the the heat to medium and fry until golden brown.
  5. Serve the spinach pakoda hot with a cup of hot tea or coffee.
