Think you know the facts on menopause? Not everything you hear is true. Here are the most common menopause myths.

MYTH One: You’ll lose your sex drive after menopause.

Low estrogen levels will reduce natural lubrication. But many women say that after menopause their desire actually increases because they don’t have to worry about becoming pregnant.

MYTH Two: Weight gain after menopause is inevitable.

It’s true that many women gain weight after menopause. But upping your exercise, LOWERING YOUR CALORIES and eating a balanced diet can keep off extra pounds.

MYTH Three: Menopause causes a decline in brain power.

Mental abilities do not decline because of menopause. YES, You MAY get “brain fog”during perimenopause as estrogen levels bounce around, but once you get into POST MENOPAUSE your capacities will be unchanged. THINK HILARY CLINTON!

Myth Four: You can’t get pregnant during perimenopause. WRONG!

It is possible to get pregnant up to one year after your last period.

Myth Five: Bioidentical hormones are better and safer for TREATING symptoms such as hot flashes.

If you’re considering taking bioidentical hormones like Samantha did in Sex in the City 2, make sure you get an FDA-approved bioidentical medication. Ask your doctor for the list. Hormones compounded at a pharmacy are not FDA approved so that means you cannot be certain of the safety, dose or contents

Also there is no current evidence that bioidentical hormones are safer or more effective than the well-tested types found in prescriptions from your doctor.

And you don’t need to take a saliva or blood test to measure your hormone levels. that’s just a waste of your money.
